TESSERA Student Innovation Call

This rolling call is supported by the University of Cambridge and centers on TESSERA, an Earth observation foundation model that produces 10 m global embeddings from satellite imagery.

What Is TESSERA?

TESSERA processes satellite imagery at global scale and produces compact embeddings that capture land cover, vegetation, forest structure, and environmental change over time. These embeddings can be used directly in downstream tasks without requiring participants to build the full remote-sensing preprocessing stack themselves.

What Participants Can Work On

  • forest monitoring and deforestation detection
  • agricultural mapping and crop classification
  • urban expansion and land-use change analysis
  • disaster-response use cases such as flood or wildfire mapping
  • biodiversity, habitat, carbon, and climate-risk analysis
  • infrastructure monitoring in remote regions

What the Call Provides

  • access to pre-computed TESSERA embeddings for the region and time period of interest
  • technical guidance from the Cambridge TESSERA research team
  • recognition through the open research community, with strong projects potentially leading to broader collaboration
  • a path to submit eligible work into the CoRE Stack Innovation Challenge
